Rukuura Safaris – Experience Uganda, Empower Communities. 🇺🇬🌍
Partnership
Hello pleasure to be part of the forum Julius from South western Uganda
The Ledger is public: every introduction, and what it turned into
From today every introduction Propel makes gets a public row: the date it went out, what the person needed, and what it turned into. Met, closed, or dead. Names only with consent. Numbers only when confirmed in writing. Rows are never deleted.
The count as of 15 September: introductions made 5, offered in a room but not yet sent 2, met 2, closed 1, one open need waiting for a match.
The one close on it so far is Aurora Wenters, who said what she needed when she registered for Demo Day, was matched before doors opened, and closed her round with that investor about a month later. The fastest row is Dylan Yeo of Klona Biotech, who replied to an edition naming one person and had the introduction in his inbox fourteen minutes later.
Post your close here and it goes on the ledger with your name, if you want it there. Read every row.
Panel slots are open for New York Fashion Week
We are programming panels across our New York Fashion Week events. The Fashion and AI Panel on Monday 14 September at the Hilton Times Square. Times Square Fashion Week on Tuesday 15 September at Duffy Square. More rooms during the week of 9 to 16 September.
The audience is founders, investors and UHNW guests.
A panelist gets three things. The room. The recording. The introductions that follow.
Topics run from UHNW wealth and family offices to fashion, AI, building companies and investing. If you can say something this audience has not heard before, apply here. Ten questions, two minutes. I read every application myself.
Adding a second way in, because the form is friction on a phone and I would rather have your name than a tidy submission.
You can now just reply to the Propel email with the word PANELIST, plus your name, what you do and which date works. That is enough. It comes straight to me and it goes into the same queue as the form, read the same day. The form above still works and is the fastest route if you are at a desk.
The rooms, with the real dates.
Thursday 10 September. The Capital Circle happy hour at Matriarch, 512 West 42nd Street. The 6:30 block is a founder pitch, a fireside chat and speaker panels. Shawn Kaplan's show, and Richie Hosein hosts that room.
Monday 14 September. Cocktails and Conversations at the Hilton Times Square. Dee Rivera's run of show already names four titles and not one of them is cast: How AI Is Changing the Landscape in Fashion at 4:40, Faith and Fashion at six, How Do I Get an Investor at 6:40, EMERGE, How to Start a Brand at 7:20.
Tuesday 15 September. Times Square Fashion Week at Father Duffy Square. Marketplace from noon, awards at five, runway from six, billboards at nine.
The programming on the fourteenth and the fifteenth is produced by Dee Rivera and DCG Media Group, and Propel co-hosts. If your date is not one of these three, there is an option on the form covering the rest of the week.
Duffy Square on 15 September: tickets, tables, runway slots and media passes
Times Square Fashion Week is two weeks out. Tuesday 15 September, Father Duffy Square, produced with Dee Rivera and DCG Media Group. Doors and the exhibitor marketplace open at noon, awards at 5, runway 6 to 8, the billboards light at 9, after party until 11.
Every price below is read straight from the checkout today.
Shop and Sip marketplace, noon to 4: $50, or $25 each when two of you book together
General Admission: $350, or two together for $575
VIP seating: $1,250, and it carries the $500 swag bag
Media pass: $75, approval required. 28 of the 40 are gone.
Vendor table in the marketplace: $3,000. Five tables, all five open.
Designer showcase: $5,000 for up to eight looks on the runway, designated press releases, and a Times Square billboard while the show runs. Two slots, and this tier closes first because the running order locks in advance.
Billboard with you on it: $500. Your face over Times Square at 9pm while the runway runs underneath. Capped at five.
The code PROPEL takes 20 percent off every tier until the show ends. Prices are before Eventbrite fees and the 9.75 percent New York sales tax added at checkout.
Everything is on the ticket page, and the full story is in today's edition.
If you want a table, a runway slot or a media pass and you would rather deal with a person than a checkout, comment here and I will handle it with you directly.
Climate and energy is the first vertical. Here is why, and what I need from you.
Propel is starting with one vertical instead of all of them, and it is climate and energy in New York.
Three reasons, plainly.
The capital is physically here. More climate money moves through New York than anywhere in this hemisphere, and the people holding it are reachable in person this quarter.
The regulatory numbers in this sector are the worst-documented and most valuable data I know of. Interconnection queues, permitting timelines, certification costs, which reviewers move and which do not. Everyone quotes ranges. Nobody publishes actuals. We will.
It is the most fragmented. Founders, funds, city agencies, utilities, universities, corporates, NGOs. They do not share a room and they absolutely do not share a record.
What I am asking for in here:
Post what you are working on and what is blocking it, even if it is early or unglamorous
Post the real numbers when you have them, in the What it actually cost channel
Answer somebody when you know the answer. That is the whole deal in here, and it is the only thing that earns anything
The rule for this network, which I would rather say out loud now than enforce quietly later: you earn by closing someone else's loop, never by posting. Introductions, answers that actually resolved something, real numbers. Not volume.
If you work in climate or energy and you have not filled out a Propel Card, do that first. It is how I know what to route to you.
Post the real number. Nobody else will.
Every founder gets the same non-answer: "it depends." How long does UL certification take. What does a Reg CF actually cost you all-in. How long is the interconnection queue in this state. What did the lawyer really charge.
The information exists. It is sitting in the heads of people who already did it, and it dies there.
This channel is for real numbers with real receipts.
What a good post looks like:
The thing: what you were trying to get through
Quoted: what you were told it would cost and take
Actual: what it did cost and take
Where it stalled: the specific step, agency, or person
What you would do differently
Round numbers are fine. Approximate is fine. "About $18k and roughly five months, and two of those months were waiting on one reviewer" is infinitely more useful than any consultant's blog post.
Two rules. Do not name individuals in a way that could hurt them, name institutions and roles instead. And do not post anything under NDA.
This is the dataset that makes Propel worth more than a group chat. Every number posted here saves somebody months.
Start here: what are you working on, and who else is on it?
The reason Propel Earth exists is a specific kind of waste. Two people work on the same problem for years, in different cities, and never learn the other one exists. Both of them solve the same sub-problem twice. One of them gives up.
This channel is the fix, and it is deliberately low-tech: post what you are working on and what part of it is hard right now.
Format that works:
The problem in one sentence, as you would say it to a friend
Where you are with it
The specific thing that is currently blocking you
What you already tried that did not work
That last line is the valuable one. "What I already tried and it failed" is the single most useful sentence anyone can write here, and it is the thing nobody publishes anywhere.
I read all of these. When two of you are on the same thing, I will say so and put you in touch with a reason attached.
If you have not filled out a Propel Card yet, that is the structured version of this and it takes four minutes.
Thursday 3 September at noon. Two minutes each, and I route what you say after.
For anyone who joined in the last week, this is the fastest useful thing in here.
You are building something and the people who could unblock it have no idea it exists. Rooms is the cheapest fix I know for that.
You get two minutes to say what you are working on and the one thing you need. Then I take what you said and put it in front of whoever in the network can actually move it. That second part is the point. The two minutes are just how I find out.
Propel Rooms runs every Thursday at 12 PM ET, online. This week that is Thursday 3 September.
It is for you if you can name one specific thing. Money, a hire, a customer, an introduction, a room you cannot get into. It costs you the noon hour and two minutes of talking. No slides, no panel, nobody talking for twenty minutes.
Comment with the one thing you need. I will hold you a slot and have two or three names ready before you speak.
Three introductions on Wednesday night, and six rooms I cannot account for
Six Propel sessions ran Wednesday and Thursday. Provider of the Month, the PaShield design lab at Cornell Tech, Steph Koffroth's cabaret debut at the Laurie Beechman, Propel Rooms, Innovation in Public week one, and the doctors and AI panel at The Wilson. I was in them. I cannot tell you who else was, because our Luma plan dropped and the guest lists have not come back, so I am writing this out of my own inbox rather than from a record.
Here is the part I can prove. On Wednesday we published a feature on Richie Hosein at FreeHealth. Three people wrote in about him. That evening I put all three on email with him directly instead of carrying on relaying messages. By Thursday afternoon his office had written back to one of them to find a time.
Three emails, sent inside one minute. That is the whole product, and it is also the thing I do least reliably, because I do it when somebody happens to write in rather than because anything makes me.
So, two things. If you were in any of those six rooms, say who you met, because right now this post is the only record Wednesday and Thursday have. And if you read something here and want to meet the person in it, reply with the name and one line on why you want the conversation. That is enough for me to send the email.
